New Moon in Virgo – September 2012

Virgo New Moon
NEW MOON IN VIRGO – Sunday 16th September 12:10pm

We are in a new change of Season and many of us are going through profound changes, as we face our greatest potential and our worst fears. We must learn to direct the flow of life with our intentions or become engulfed by the wave of insecurity, fear and panic.

As Bill Hicks so eloquently puts it “It’s just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.”

The last full Moon was emotionally charged, as we faced both our limitations and potential. Now this new Moon in Virgo is fuelling us to get active and ground our dreams and visions into reality.

Ruled by Mercury, the Planet of Communication and the winged Messenger of the gods, Virgo brings a practical, down-to-earth energy to Earth. Under this Moon we can find the inspiration we need to get our projects moving closer to the goals.

The Virgo Moon tells us

We are more level-headed and less emotional under a Virgo Moon so use this Moon energy to get sensible and realistic about your goals. Break the challenges down into more bite sized chunks if you are feeling overwhelmed by everything that is happening in your life. Find some silent time to listen to your intuition, your inner voice that has the answers you need to solve all your challenges.

This is the time to get focused on your direction. Things are going to get even more intense, as we race to the end of 2012 and the more we know where we are going the easier it will be to relinquish control and let the natural flow of energy guide us to where we need to go. Under this Moon we find ourselves able to see things from a more logical perspective and without the emotional charge. Problems that seemed insurmountable can now be solved, as things become clear and we see the solutions are right in front of us.

Under a Virgo Moon there is a tendency to worry about how everything will turn out. The key is not to sweat the small stuff. There is so much to be fearful of we can often feel paralysed to move forward or make the next step. Instead use this Virgo Moon to motivate you to break through whatever fear is holding you back.

Also be careful not to be too hard on yourself or become too analytical. We can also get deluded over this Moon so be extra vigilant and don’t get sucked into anything that may put you in jeopardy later on down the line or sounds too good to be true.

The important thing is to listen to your inner voice that is constantly prompting you to make the right decision. It is heightened during this Moon and when we follow it we see everything effortlessly falling into place, even if it all looks a mess right now. When we listen to our inner voice we are using our ‘sixth’ sense. The energetic sense that is connected to all things and beings, it sees the bigger picture and prompts us in the right direction, even if it doesn’t make rational sense.

The more we tap into this vital resource the more our psychic abilities come online. We become more perceptive and sensitive to others and our situations, enabling us to ‘see’ beyond the illusion and recognise how everything is actually happening perfectly. We become less stressed, as we stop fighting with life and instead learn to flow with it.

“Intuition is a combination of historical (empirical) data, deep and heightened observation, and an ability to cut through the thickness of surface reality. Intuition is like a slow motion machine that captures data instantaneously and hits you like a ton of bricks. Intuition is a knowing, a sensing that is beyond the conscious understanding — a gut feeling. Intuition is not pseudo-science.” ~ Abella Arthur

Virgo also helps us to let go of a habit or addiction that is no longer serving us. Utilise Virgo’s discipline and perseverance to follow through your commitments to your health and well-being, even if it’s only till the next new moon. Alternatively, taking up a new hobby, exercise or diet will help you feel more connected to your body.

Over the year we have been experiencing an increasing intensity that is still yet to peak on the Solstice on 21st December. The Moon’s influence is getting stronger and more powerful. Use this Moon to break through those limitations that came up over the Piscean full Moon and move your projects and creative endeavours forward.

I will end this with the wise words of Hamilton Wright Mabie:

“The question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had means, time, influence and educational advantages; the question is what he will do with the things he has. The moment a young man ceases to dream or to bemoan his lack of opportunities and resolutely looks his conditions in the face, and resolves to change them, he lays the corner-stone of a solid and honorable success”.

Personal Reflection

With Virgo energy being all about healing, service and our authentic truth, I feel guided to share a little of my personal story and the initiations I am facing under the Virgo New Moon. As Chocolate Yoga grows and expands, we’re getting invited to present in more and more places and to bigger and bigger audiences. While this is my deepest heart calling, one that I willingly respond to, it is also bringing up my deepest fears at this time. Putting myself out there in the world is triggering old beliefs and wounds that I have to be perfect. With perfectionism comes the need to control…

Virgo New Moon Personal Reflection
Virgo New Moon is considered the “perfect” time to check in with yourself to see how far you’ve come in your journey of self-knowledge and self-actualization and it really makes sense of why I’ve been re-examining my spiritual ideals – in particular deconstructing my concept of “a perfect yogi” and the impossibility of actually being this. This moon also challenges us to stop being so critical of ourselves and to stop the relentless perfectionism. I’ve seen in others, and experienced in myself, how damaging this can become if it is not tempered with our compassion, self acceptance and self love. Bring on Virgo healing!

Dealing with old fears and limitations I thought I’d “dealt with” years ago has been quite humbling. These initiations are essentially about surrendering ego, another beautiful lesson and gift that Virgo energy offers us – to be humbled and work in service, not for egoic self gain. At this time it helps me to recognize that what I am facing are timely lessons for the Virgo new moon; healing deep fears, releasing criticism and being hard on oneself; and knowing that these “lessons” are massive opportunities of growth for me!

There are so many great tools in the teachings of Kundalini Yoga, that I am grateful for – that have, without a doubt, elevated my life profoundly. And yet there have been moments of struggle too, where I believed that if I am not the “elevated” ideal yogi all the time, then I may have failed to use the teachings properly. The teachings often promote that KY technology can be used to elevate yourself as well establishing being authentic. But in my moments of struggle comes confusion; should I be elevated or authentic?

Yesterday a wise teacher told me that “When we’re all “sorted”, with everything all neatly sewn up, we’re sewn up in our ego.” It kind of reminds me of what Yogi Bhajan used to say – if your sadhana is blissful every day, then you’re NOT DOING THE WORK!

But what does it mean to truly live authentically? Something I read recently that really resonated for me, explained that living authentically was, “living by the light of our own uniqueness, embracing it and more importantly, sharing it, for, our uniqueness endows us with gifts that are multiplied when offered back out to the world.” To this I would add that true authenticity is also the ability to be honest and real with oneself (and others), even in the midst of vulnerability. For it is in the moments that we are humbled and brought to our knees, unable to live up to our own expectations, of what we think we “should be”, that we reach out and ask for God’s guidance. In so doing, we are opened to the expansiveness of collaboration with spirit. From here, we can begin our quest for our “most authentic self”, as Gurmukh says, “It is the surest path to happiness.” And in this way, we can perhaps glimpse a moment of Authentic Elevation.

May this poem by Danna Faulds – ‘From Root to Bloom’ inspire the barefooted journey…

A life of truth walks the edge
between ease and effort.
There’s nothing you must do
to win approval, no list of
saintly acts to tick off one by one,
no required deprivations. Say yes
to life and you are blessed with
countless opportunities to choose
wholeness over fragmentation.
You need but knock for doors
To open wide. Ask and you are
filled with presence so vast
that all the words in your
personal lexicon amount to
nothing in its silence. Stop
seeking long enough to
receive the spirit that’s within
you now. Just be your truest
self, and the voice you’ve
longed to hear will speak
through you. Release your
grip on limitation and
possibilities roll out like
endless ocean waves. All
you have to do is kick off
your shoes and run barefoot
in the sand.
