Full Moon in Cancer, January 2014

Thursday 16th January 2014, 3:52pm (AEDT)
Every month the moon waxes to full in a different sign. How we feel can often depend on what sign the moon falls in. This full moon in Cancer is the first full moon of 2014, illuminating our issues around safety and security. This is because the full moon in Cancer heightens and expands our joy and gratitude, or our fears and insecurities, even if the problems have been with us for a while.
For example, if you are living with flatmates that you have been feeling uncomfortable with, or feeling insecure and isolated at work, or if you have been feeling unsafe and vulnerable in a relationship, these feelings can increase and multiply over this period.
The moon attempts to take us out of our denial so we can see what is making us unhappy and change the situation. This is because nature is always trying to find balance and equilibrium but we can only find this middle path when we are fully aware of what is happening and willing to take the necessary action to change it.
This watery Cancer moon is ruled by the moon so it is also more emotionally charged than others, guiding our emotional desires and needs. Pluto is still influencing us with his transformational energy, while Jupiter and Venus are in the early morning sky, expanding our clarity, and insisting that we start nurturing ourselves, by acknowledging those emotional needs that are not being met, and find ways of meeting them.
Mars is in the night sky creating conflict and disagreement, while Saturn joins him, the ruling planet of Capricorn is still influencing us, by showing us where our boundaries and limitations are. This may increase any tension and stress, as we are being forced to face our situation head on, leading to feelings of desperation and helplessness, heightened by the watery Cancerian moon and create ‘black and white’ or ‘globalised’ thinking, when we only see things from one perspective and fail to recognise all the other influences and positive situations that are happening in our lives. If things are not going the way you would like in one specific area, this moon has the potential to lock you into the negative perspective.
Rather than slip into the victim mentality or a depression, use the moon’s energy to become pro-active instead. Focus on what is going well for you; find the inner and outer resources that you do have, to start making changes to those parts of your life that are not working. We can only use the moon as an empowerment tool if we are taking personal responsibility for our choices and subsequent actions.
Don’t retreat into your shell this moon; instead ask for help if you need it. Everyone is feeling overly sensitive and vulnerable in a Cancer moon and if we share our feelings rather than bottle or suppress them, there will be less opportunity to blow up, misread a situation or blow one out of proportion.
Fortunately, our intuition is much stronger under a Cancer moon so if you do not know which way to turn, or what to do, find some time and space for meditation and mindfulness, so you can calm the often crazy, over stimulated and negative mind. Click here to try this amazing Kundalini Yoga meditation for working with your intuition. It is only when we are in stillness that we can hear the calm, peaceful voice within that is open to the infinite opportunities that the mind is unable to see, as it is only limited by what it already knows. The best way to navigate this moon peacefully is to concentrate on the positive things that are happening in your life.
On a brighter note this moon also helps us to see and appreciate those people in our lives that support and help us. We become more aware of those little things that others do for us that make our lives easier and that we can overlook in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. For those of you who are happy and content, these feelings will heighten over this moon period creating feelings of abundance and gratitude for all the blessings in your life. Use this moon to increase these feelings so you attract more of the same.
The attitude of gratitude is a very powerful process because where we are paying attention is what we are manifesting in our lives. Over this moon become aware of where you are paying attention. Are you a becoming a victim of life? Or are you taking personal responsibility for the choices you have made and making the necessary changes to empower yourself?
The full moon in Cancer may get a bit turbulent, but if you focus on all the beautiful, positive and loving things that are happening and change one of those things that are making you unhappy, you will find this moon incredibly empowering and hopefully inspire you to become more secure, peaceful and happy.
I will end this Moonscope with the wise words of Swami Vivekananda:
“If you think about disaster, you will get it. Brood about death and you hasten your demise. Think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith, and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action, richer in achievement and experience.”
Love and Blessings to my moon sista Rebekah Shaman for this post

Full Moon Ritual
Make one change in your life this moon, whether it is a big thing, such as leaving a relationship that has come to its end, handing in your notice to a job that no longer serves you, or looking for new living arrangements if your housing situation is not really working for you. Or small changes, such as taking up regular exercise, like yoga, or a gym class, or sport such as swimming or running, changing your diet, or stopping alcohol or smoking, or some other habit if you know that is having a detrimental effect on your life (and finances) you will feel more empowered, courageous and more in control.
There is still time to enrol in a night class to support and stimulate you. Night classes are a good way to meet more like-minded people, inspire and promote creativity. When we stretch ourselves we always feel much better.
Pamper yourself with a massage, facial, sauna, or whatever you need to feel good. When we feel good about ourselves we become much more motivated to take charge and make changes in our lives.
When we start recognising our inner resources it becomes much easier to make changes in our lives. We automatically begin to feel more in control, happier and motivated. If you are feeling a bit low and depressed, write a list of all the positive things that make you happy, even if it’s the things we take for granted such as hot water, central heating, running water etc. When you have your list, concentrate on each one and allow the feelings of gratitude and joy to flood your body until you feel more peaceful and happy.
