Libra New Moon, September 2014

Wednesday 24th September 2014 – 4:13pm (AEST)
Phew, what an intense few months it’s been. Fortunately, we have passed through the phase of supermoons, and now we reach the calming, and soothing, airy Libra new moon, that will help us survey the impact of the last few months in a more balanced and harmonious way.
Use these next couple of weeks wisely and start creating fresh balance in your life, because there is more chaos ahead. The Aries full moon is a total lunar eclipse and Mercury goes retrograde, slowing everything down again and creating space for reflection, evaluation and contemplation.
This next new/full moon cycle in Libra and Aries is another powerful combination spanning both ends of the physical and spiritual spectrum. While we endeavour to follow our paths and fulfil our needs, we are more aware than ever that our actions have a direct impact on everything around us.
When our intentions are for the greater good, our actions are automatically compassionate. When we are only thinking of our own needs and wants there is an element of conflict in all our relationships. This is a time when we have to balance the “I” of Aries with the “we” of Libra. We are all faced with the dilemma of merging our desires with the greater good and this moon helps us to recognise the inner conflict between the me, me, me aspects of our selves, and the acceptance that we are also part of a whole.
To help us with this process Pluto is going forward, after being retrograde since April. This planet of illuminating darkness and transformation has helped to shake many of us awake over the last few months. Now it is the time to embody all that we have learnt about ourselves. It’s time to start incorporating those changes into our lives, our relationships and most importantly, with ourselves.
Transformation can only happen when we step into the fire. If it has been a challenging few months, enjoy the balm this moon applies. Ruled by Venus, the Libra new moon reminds us to look at all the beautiful abundance and relationships in our lives, rather than what is not so pretty.
Wherever we are paying attention that is what we are seeing, so over this moon make an effort to focus on all the blessings, especially if things are happening that you can’t control, or situations are complicated. When we have a balanced outlook, it is easier to find the solutions.
This Libra moon falls a day after the Spring Equinox [in the southern hemisphere], the pagan cross-quarter festival that celebrates the time of equal day and night and a balance of light and dark …. This is the time of the year, when everything around us is springing into life. We too are pulsed to awaken and grow at this time. Opportunities and new beginnings abound. Just as blossoms begin to bloom in nature, we can also tap into this determination to burst into life and flower and grow at this time.
Symbolised by the scales, Libra reminds us that in order to find balance, our heart and ego must be in alignment. Now more than ever, if we are living a life in conflict with our value systems, life is going to become a lot more stressful and unhappy. When we shift from our ego perspective, to one that encompasses the whole of humanity and Mother Earth, we find we have purpose and meaning in our lives that brings more happiness, fulfilment and contentment.
I will end this Moonscope with the wise words of Euripides (484 BC – 406 BC):
“The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise (wo)man.”

New Moon Ritual
This Libra new moon is a time for creativity to flow and re-energize our relationships and dreams. In order to take full opportunity of this power we need to get in touch with what is holding us back. Once we face the truth we become empowered to change.
The dark moon allows us to find that quiet space within where we can remove our ‘mask’ and accept who we are with real honesty.
When you have completed all your tasks for the day and you are ready to give the time to yourself find a peaceful space where you can just be. Light some candles and burn incense to create a calming ambiance.
Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. Close your eyes and become aware of your body. Connect deeply and slowly with your toes, legs, thighs, torso, arms, neck, face and then crown. Exhale all your stresses and release all your frustrations, just breathe them right out of your body. Repeat this process three times.
Take a piece of paper or your journal and write down these questions:
How do I create a more harmonious life?
How do I create more harmony in my relationships?
How do I create more balance in my life?
How do I create more joy in my life?
How do I create more abundance in my life?
How do I release old experiences that are keeping me stuck in the past?
How do I release fear and follow my heart?
Allow the questions to permeate into your being and in the silence dive deep into yourself for help and guidance. Gradually, as the moon waxes to full, it will bring you the answers in many different forms so that you can make the changes to move forward in your life with confidence and hope.
